CONGRATULATIONS to the Hurricane baseball team on a very successful season.

Thank You Coach Robert "Boat" Peel
Updated on 08/23/2022
In 1981 Coach Robert "Boat" Peel joined Coach Scott Buffington on the baseball diamond at Haven High School. Their record that year was 7-14. Coach Peel said "We can improve, we can practice”. For the next 36 years, the Hurricane baseball team would not see another losing season. Over the last three decades, Coach Peel has been an integral part in amassing 36 winning seasons, 36 trips to District Playoffs, District Championships, many trips to the State Playoffs and a 2003 undefeated regular season. Coach Peel has had an impact on many players over the 37 years, ironically Coach Peel wore #37 during his first season coaching. Talking with past and present players, Coach Peel is the epitome of hard work ethic, determination and consistency. Many players and parents have said he has a lasting impact and they will carry that with them all their lives. As Coach Dennis Siket said "He was an integral part of our team and cared about our student athletes on and off the field." Head Baseball Coach Scott Buffington says “his departure after 37 years is emotional, yet his contributions, steadiness and consistency will be missed greatly, not just by the team but by myself personally. I wish him nothing but the best in retirement.” Coach Peel is a 1971 graduate of SHAHS, he also retired as an elementary teacher from SHASD and also coached Basketball and Football for the Hurricanes. Coach Peel is quoted as saying “in all these years at Haven, I have never regretted a moment to work with or be a part of this great district and these fine young men, times for now have changed, but the ability to be a part of something will always remain.” Coach Peel also said “thank you to SHASD for allowing him to be a part of something great!!!” Coach Peel, from all of us at Haven, THANK YOU for your many years of loyalty and dedication and it’s now time to enjoy your retirement, you deserve it!!!!
