Winter Edition-November 2025
The leaves have all fallen from the trees, which point to signs of winter. As we gear up for boys’ and girls’ basketball, swimming and wrestling we will take a look of what has been already accomplished (fall) and what is still ahead (winter) in the area of Schuylkill Haven Athletics!
Before we look ahead to winter sports, it is important to take a look back at the success and highlights of the fall athletic season.
The Hurricanes Fall sports season was by all means a successful one. Our teams combined for a record of 72-41-1, a 57% winning percentage with 4 Championships (and hopefully a minimum of at least one more).
The volleyball team competed in the District XI tournament with the team battling tough throughout the season. With the nucleus set to return next season, the team looks to build on the positives of this season.
The boys’ soccer team battled itself into the District XI tournament as well. The team carried its early season success through the remainder of the season. Again, with many expected returners the team will look to grow into the next season.
The Golf team had numerous District XI representatives perform well and one team member finish in the Top 20 in the PIAA State Match. As a team, the Hurricanes finished 11-1 overall and participated in the league and district championships, continuing their recent string of success.
The Cross Country team had some success at the Jr Hi level with runners learning the ropes of competing in school sports. The high school team is where the majority of success came with the girls’ team finishing second in District XI, earning a spot in the PIAA State Tournament. Additionally, on the boys’ side the Hurricanes sent one representative to the PIAA State Tournament – a 9th grader who we look forward to much success in the years to come.
The Lady Hurricanes Soccer Team had a year that will go down in the records books. The ladies won Division 2 of the Schuylkill League, were crowned Champions of the District XI tournament, while defeating a 7-time champion in the final. Moving onto the PIAA State Tournament the ladies won game 1 and moved onto the state quarterfinals where they fell in Double OT.
The Hurricane Football team is undefeated thus far and will play for the District XI Championship this week. The season thus far has been a successful one. We wish them luck and future success!
The school district thanks all of the seniors who have competed for their respective teams, the school and their families over the past 4 years. These are memories which you will have forever.
The Athletic Department hosted many playoff games this fall including many football games and the entire Schuylkill League Soccer Playoffs. While these events may seem easy, the department would like to thank all of the game day workers and volunteers who have made these events possible for the school. In this profession, we typically only hear of the negatives, but in the fall season we were able to showcase many of the positives we have to offer at Schuylkill Haven. Once again, thank you to all those involved.
With the winter sports season officially underway on November 14th, we look forward to seeing many of the same athletes on the court, mat or pool over the next few months. We encourage all of our students to get involved! You only have 4 years to make memories you will have for a lifetime.
We look forward to another group swimming in the pool, a rejuvenated wrestling program, a boys basketball team with many returning players from last year and a girls’ team who hopes to build upon the huge amount of team success they had last year!
As leagues champions, these ladies and all teams will have to work hard, be coached and prepared to compete with the upcoming winter schedules ahead.
As a reminder, we encourage our families to utilize our Athletic Website for all of your scheduling needs. https://schuylkillhaven.bigteams.com/
The redesign and update of the site reflect a significant step forward in the digital engagement for the Hurricanes!
The website will continue to provide scheduling and score updates. We encourage you to create a free account and tailor it to fit your needs.
Next, you will find the Schuylkill Haven Athletics Facebook which can also serve as a means of communication and information. Sites like these can offer a variety of information, but take a lot of set-up and upkeep, we ask you to stick with us as we continue to roll out different aspects over time.
This fall in conjunction with the Internship Department, we were able to begin some Sports Media programming through our NFHS live feed. This experience for some of our students was by all means a successful one. Congratulations to all of those involved.
Hurricane student-athletes continue to amaze each year. With top notch facilities, dedicated coaching staffs and unwavering athletic department support, the school continues to give our student-athletes many individual and team opportunities. As Michael Jordan once said, “I've never lost a game. I just ran out of time.”
We don’t want you to run out of time-COMPETE!
We want the kids to be kids and the parents to support and encourage! We wish the teams the best of luck this winter. Lifelong memories will await all of those who choose to work hard and compete. These can be the best times of your lives!
In sport and in the classroom, Hurricanes remain leaders!
As always, we encourage our student-athletes to Get Involved, Work Hard and Compete!
Enjoy Sports!
